- How do I publish Web pages onto my DelphiPlus Web
space?
First, you'll need to create the Web pages. Here are a few places
where you can get help with HTML and Web authoring:
-top-
- Once I have my page ready to publish, how do I
get it on the Web?
You can use our Web Space Manager or use a process called File
Transfer Protocol (FTP for short). To access your Web space with
the Web Space Manager, go to your
My
Forums page and click on 'Web Space Manager' link in the 'Manage Web
Space' section in the 'My Info' menu on the left. Advanced users
may use the FTP client of their choice. For help configuring your FTP
client, please see the DelphiPlus FTP
Configuration page. The FTP server is ftp.delphiforums.com, and
files should be placed in the 'htdocs' directory.
-top-
- Can I use FrontPage extensions?
Sorry, FrontPage extensions aren't supported on Delphi Forums.
-top-
- Will ads appear on my Web pages?
No.
-top-
- Where can I find Web pages and other files
after I publish them via FTP?
Pages and other files appear at http://people.delphiforums.com/MEMBERNAME/FILENAME.
Make sure you replace MEMBERNAME
with your Delphi Forums membername, and FILENAME
with the name of the file you are trying to access. For example,
if your membername is joe_user, and
you upload a Web page called mypage.html
to your Web space, the page would be available on the Web at http://people.delphiforums.com/joe_user/mypage.html. (Note that file names are case-sensitive.)
If there is a page you want users to see when they type in http://people.delphiforums.com/MEMBERNAME/,
make sure you name that file index.htm or index.html. In all cases,
if you are not using the Web Space Manager, make sure you place your file
in the 'htdocs' directory. (The Web Space Manager takes you directly to
the 'htdocs' directory.)
-top-
- How do I use my Web space for images I want
to include in my message board signature?
After you publish a GIF or JPG image file to your Web space, you can
view the image with your Web Space Manager, and either copy/paste the
image from the manager to your message or signature, or click the link
to obtain the HTML needed to display the image. If you're writing your
own HTML, use the following code:
<img src="http://people.delphiforums.com/MEMBERNAME/FILENAME"
width="X" height="Y">
Make sure you replace MEMBERNAME
with your Delphi Forums membername, FILENAME
with the name of your image file, X
with the pixel width of your image, and Y
with the pixel height of your image. Visit the Using
HTML on Delphi Forums tutorial if you need assistance in writing
the HTML code.
Caution: Don't "drag and drop" your
images from your FTP view into your signature, or your membername and
password will be included in the link.
Instead, pull the image up in your browser by typing:
http://people.delphiforums.com/membername/filename where membername is
YOUR membername and filename is the name of the .gif or .jpg file you
want to put in your signature. You can drag from there and it won't
reveal your password.
-top-
- What is my Delphi Forums Mail address?
Your email address is MEMBERNAME@delphiforums.com,
replacing MEMBERNAME with your own
Delphi Forums membername.
-top-
- How do I access my Delphi Forums Mail?
First, you must create your Delphi Forums email account. You do this
by going to your My
Forums page and clicking on the 'Email Account Setup' link
in the 'My Info' menu on the left. This will take you to a page where you
can create your email account. Once your account is created, there
are three ways to access your email:
- Through the Web. You can send and receive email from
the DelphiPlus webmail interface at mail.delphiforums.com.
Log in using your membername (all lower-case) and your DelphiPlus
Controls Password. You can find out your Controls Password by going to your
My
Forums page and clicking on the 'Default Controls Password' link in the
'My Info' menu on the left.
- Forward to another email account. In order to activate this option, log
in to the DelphiPlus webmail interface at mail.delphiforums.com using the instructions above. Click on the 'Configuration'
link on the left. Under 'Options,' click on 'Forward My Mail' to get the the
mail forwarding setup page.
- Use your favorite email software. If you have email
software such as Outlook Express or Eudora, you can access
your Delphi Mail directly from the email server. For help setting
up your email software, please consult the DelphiPlus
Email Configuration page.
-top-
- Which email address will be used for my message
notifications and My Forums newsletters?
The email address you used when you initially signed up for Delphi Forums
is the address where your mailings will continue to go. If you
wish to change the email address associated with your account
to use your Delphi Forums email address, you may do so from your
My Forums
page.
-top-
- How much attachment space do I get as a DelphiPlus
member?
DelphiPlus members get a total of 100 megabytes of attachment space.
(DelphiBasic members get .5 megabytes.)
-top-
- When I upgrade from DelphiBasic membership, do I get
100 megabytes additional space, or 100 megabytes total?
Your total attachment space allotment will be increased
to 100 megabytes. Attachments that you have posted as a DelphiBasic member
will count against that total.
-top-
- Can I recover attachment space once I use it?
Yes. Go to your My
Forums page. In the "My Info" section on the left, and click on the
"Find old attachments" link. That will bring
up a page with links to all of the messages where you have posted
attachments. To regain attachment space, simply click on the links
to get to your previous messages with attachments and delete those
messages in order to regain attachment space.
-top-
- Why would I want to filter out signatures?
Some users don't like to have the flow of message board posts
disrupted by large signatures that take up a lot of space on the
page.
-top-
- How do I filter out signatures?
Go to your My
Forums page and click on the 'View Options' link on the left
hand side of the screen in the 'Membership Level' menu. You'll
find the 'Signature Filtering' option near the bottom of the page.
Check the box next to 'Use Signature Filtering' to disable signatures
and be sure to click on the 'Submit' button.
-top-
- Why don't I see the Message Formatting (WYSIWYG)
Editor that everyone else is talking about?
This feature only works for members using Internet Explorer 5.0
or newer on the Windows operating system. If you are using any
other operating system or Web browser, then you will not see the
editor.
-top-
- What if I want to use HTML source code to compose
messages?
Click on the button on the bottom of the compose message box that
says source. You'll be able to write your own HTML in the message
text box. If you never want to use the WYSIWYG editor, you
can turn this off. Go to your My
Forums page and click on the 'View Options' link on the left hand
side of the screen in the 'Membership Level' menu. You'll find
the 'Message Formatting' option at the bottom of the page. Clear
the check from the box next to 'Use Message Formatting Editor' to
disable the WYSIWYG editor.
-top-
- What are Jabber and Exodus for Delphi?
Jabber is a popular instant messaging and chat system. Exodus for
Delphi is the software we recommend for DelphiPlus subscribers to take
advantage of these features.
-top-
- Where can I go to get more detailed information
about Jabber and Exodus for Delphi?
The Jabber and Exodus for Delphi
home page would be a good place to start.
-top-
- Why is there a plus sign next to my name when
I post a message?
The plus sign is the Personal Icon you are assigned when you first
sign up as a DelphiPlus member.
-top-
- What are Personal Icons?
As a DelphiPlus member, you may choose from dozens of icons that
you can opt to have appear next to your member name when you post
in a message board.
-top-
- Where do I choose my Personal Icon?
Go to your My
Forums page and click on the 'View Options' link on the left
hand side of the screen in the 'Membership Level' menu. The 'Personal
Icon' section at the top of the page indicates what your current
Personal Icon is (you are assigned a plus sign when you first
sign up). Click on the 'Change Icon' link to launch the icon selection
window and click on the Personal Icon you wish to use.
-top-
- Can I choose not to have a Personal Icon appear?
Yes. Go to your My
Forums page and click on the 'View Options' link on the left
hand side of the screen in the 'Membership Level' menu. In the
'Personal Icon' section at the top of the page, uncheck the 'Use
Personal Icon' box and click on the 'Submit' button at the bottom
of the page.
-top-
- What is the Staff Badge?
The Staff Badge is a small gavel icon that appears next to your
membername when you post a message in a forum where you have administrative
privileges ('W,' 'A,' 'E,' or 'C' flag).
-top-
- Can I choose not to have a Staff Badge appear?
Yes. Go to your My
Forums page and click on the 'View Options' link on the left
hand side of the screen in the 'Membership Level' menu. In the
'Staff Badge' section in the middle of the page, uncheck the 'Use
Staff Badge' box and click on the 'Submit' button at the bottom
of the page. You can also opt to not use the Staff Badge when
you post a message in a forum where you have administrative privileges.
Subsequent messages will not have the Staff Badge included until
you opt to use the Staff Badge again.

What is Delphi SpellCheck?

on the Web browser you are using (through the use of cookies),
not based on your Delphi account.
-top-
-
How do I use Delphi SpellCheck?

you may want to add it to your personal dictionary by clicking
the 'Add' button.
-top-
-

personal preferences?
Launch Delphi SpellCheck (see previous answer) and click on the
'Options' link. There, you can set your spell checking options.
