How To: Post a Message

All members can post message board messages. While some forums have posting restrictions (you may have to be a member for a certain period of time, for instance) you can usually post messages wherever you like and most forum hosts are happy to see new members participating. Just make sure you abide by the forum's rules, which are often found on the start page (Click the "Start" tab).

1.) Launch the message composition page

There are several ways to start writing a message. If you want to create a new discussion, click the "Post New" link on the start page (arrow 1) or at the top left on the messages page (arrow 2) or at the top of each folder listing (arrows 3 and 4). If you want to reply to a message in an existing discussion, click the reply button at the bottom of that message (arrow 5).

If you're not already logged in to your Delphi Forums account, you'll be asked to do so.

2.) Compose your message

Use this model text editor to learn how all of the features work.

This isn't an actual editor, so you can't enter any text. But if you click on a button in the toolbar, you'll see an explanation of what the button does.

This is what the message editor on the message composition page looks like. Click on the buttons to see what they do. All you need to do is write your message in the editor, and do any desired formatting and/or image insertion using the toolbar buttons. (Some forums may opt to disable the editor and present a plain text entry window.) If all you want to do is enter text, you can ignore the editor toolbar.

3.) Submit your message

When you're done composing your message, you have several options. Click the "Post" button (arrow 6) to submit your message. If you'd like to preview your message before submitting it, click the "Preview" button (arrow 7). If you want to discard your message (and this is irreversable), click the "Cancel" button (arrow 8). Click the "Options" button (arrow 9) to expand the message options panel (arrow 10).
